Chemical properties Colorless liquid. Melting point -90ºC, boiling point 92ºC, relative density 1.0174 (20/4ºC), refractive index 1.4079, flash point 1ºC. Soluble in ether, water, alcohol decomposition. Use as an intermediate for organic synthesis, it is a raw chemical material for the production of highly efficient photoinitiators PI-906 and PI-907. The production method is obtained by the reaction of isobutyric acid and sulfoxide chloride: under stirring, isobutyric acid is added to sulfoxide chloride to immediately release hydrogen chloride and sulfur dioxide. After adding the drops, continue to stir and heat up to 80ºC for 0.5h. Distillation, collect wide fractions, and then distillation to collect 92-92ºC fractions to obtain the finished product.
