Colorless irritating liquid. Boiling point 108 ~ 110ºC. The relative density is 1.5315. Refractive index 1.4591. It can be miscible with ethyl ether and decompose when it meets water and ethanol. Smoke in the air.

preparation
Trichloroethylene and azodiisobutyronitrile (catalyst) were heated to 100ºC, oxygen was injected, and the reaction was carried out under 0.6 mpa pressure. The oil bath temperature was maintained at 110ºC for 10 hours, and the product dichloroacetyl chloride was steamed under normal pressure.
The by-product trichloroethylene oxide can also be converted into dichloroacetyl chloride by reacting with methylamine, triethylamine, pyridine and other amine compounds.
